General Appearance:
Georgiana has a very exquisite appearance. She has, without even being very aware of it, a very subtle and easy way of getting attention with her elegant and yet natural look. With her piercing greyish blue eyes, her very pale, completely un-tanned complexion, her fine, perhaps a little too long nose and her light, straight blond hair that falls down to her shoulders, she has a somewhat ethereal air about her.
In all other ways but her nose and her long limbs, Georgiana’s body could be considered a little petite. She’s very thin and slender, not because she’s eating too little, but rather because she could eat a whole house without gaining an extra pound.
What also is to say about Georgiana’s appearance is that she does not often laugh. She does smile a lot, every once in a while. But she only laughs on very rare occasions. People easily acknowledge that there is something sad, something tragic about her. That is because of all she had to experience these past few years, all those sad events weight heavily on her. I will deepen on those experiences at a later point.
Georgiana’s looks are very elegant. Being raised in a wealthy family and marrying into a rich, influential family – so, spending all her life in the upper wizarding class and very often having the spotlight directed at her – she learned quickly to take great care of her appearance, her looks, her clothes and style. So, she dresses elegantly, in fine velvet and silk robes, and appears collected at all times.

Greyish Blue.

Personal History:
Georgiana Elaine Granville was born in the early morning hours of April 14th, 1934, to Jane Marianne and Charles Philippe Granville. The Granville family owned a house in the little French town of Mont Saint Michelle, in the north of France. From there, they organized and managed their own little wine industry, with vineyards all across the country. The Granvilles were a very fortunate family, belonging to the noble French nobility. And so, little Georgiana learned from her first day onward the ways of the nobility, of rich people.
Georgiana grew up in Mont Saint Michelle as the family’s youngest daughter: Her brother Philippe Louis was her elder by seven years, and her sister Margaret Theresa by three. Although all three of them experienced love and warmth from their parents at all time, they did not have an easy childhood. Philippe Louis suffered from a mental sickness which led him to incapability of controlling his magic. He was not accepted to Beauxbatons, nor any other wizarding school, in fear of him harming other students. So, as a result, Philippe was homeschooled by his mother Jane. He was not excluded from the family, nor kept a secret, but all to the contrary, the Granvilles always made it their top priority to make Philippe feel welcome and at home in the wizarding society and nobility, no matter how bad his magical skills were.
Georgiana as well as her sister Margaret went to Beauxbatons, and excelled there as students. Margaret had an exceptional talent for Charms, whereas Georgiana’s best and subjects were Potions and Arithmancy – clearly logical, mathematical subjects. She graduated as one of year’s best.
It was after Georgiana’s graduation – she had been almost nineteen at that time – that she attended a wine tasting organized by her family, in southern France, near Avignon. She met a british wizard there, Edward Christian Twickenham had been his name. Georgiana had had a little too much wine, so the name Twickenham did not ring a bell in her head at first – she knew she had heard that name somewhere before, but simply could not put her finger on it. She liked Edward, he seemed to her like a young and independent businessman – Edward already had opened his publishing company at that time - full with inspiration and life. And apparently, he had found her very attractive, too. They danced and conversed the whole night long, barely leaving each other’s side.
What no one of the two noticed, was that both their families, the Granvilles and the Twickenhams, monitored their every move with great interest. And even if they had noticed – probably they wouldn’t have thought of what their parents had planned for them. It was only two days after that Jane and Charles broke the news to Georgiana: She was engaged. To Edward.
To Georgiana, this came out of nowhere, and was not entirely welcome. Yes, she liked Edward, and certainly would have wanted to meet him again, perhaps in private, too. But to marry – this had been too quick for her. Yet, she let it happen, not wanting to anger her parents. She married Edward one year later in 1953, and had to move to his home, the Twickenham Manor in Clevedon, near Bristol. It was all new to her: the people, the customs, the language, the food, the clothing, the culture. The little English she could speak was barely sufficient for conversing with all the new people around her. The Twickenhams, having French roots, spoke French fluently, and helped Georgiana with learning English. But there were plenty of witches and wizards whom she had difficulties speaking with. It took Georgiana, who was not very talented with learning a new language, almost ten years to perfect her language skills.
Georgiana and Edward did not love each other. Perhaps they were in love for the first few couples of weeks of their engagement time, but that infatuation passed away again. They accepted each other, they respected each other, but were nothing more than man and woman, and after their marriage husband and wife. It took long years to deepen their relationship a little, and they became friends, good friends: talking to each other about their problems, being there for each other, helping each other through difficult phases. Georgiana even accepted the fact that most Twickenhams were dark wizards, former supporters of Grindelwald, and now supporters of Lord Voldemort. That they harboured an interest for Dark Magic. She accepted Edward practicing it, as well. It was not easy for her – Georgiana had been raised to believe all human beings being equals – but in the end, she found a way to make her husband’s second identity (being a Death Eater versus being a book publisher) not matter to her. At all times, she had no interest for this second identity of his, and he knew it. He kept this part of his life away from her, knowing it made her feel bad inside and was too much to take.
As Edward and Georgiana did not love each other, it had been a long way for them to be comfortable with sharing the same bed. It was an awkward situation for both of them, having the family pressure them to having a child, very soon. They were forced to fulfil this duty. Georgiana had been twenty years old the time she gave birth to their first child: Robert Adam Twickenham. It couldn’t have been better: Another boy in the Twickenham family to secure the family name. That was what the Twickenhams thought of Robert: The safety chain, would something happen to the original heir of the Twickenham fortune, Benjamin James VII. Georgiana however had an entirely different view on her son: He was her great love, her child, her boy, her firstborn. She loved him endlessly and gave him all the warmth she possessed, just as she loved each of her children.
Two years later followed a girl, Mavie. The poor newborn child caught an infection over the Christmas holidays, however, and suffered death from exhaustion in early January. Her second child’s death came as a great blow for Georgiana. After Robert’s birth she had wished so much for a girl to cuddle and raise – and then she had the girl, and only could keep and love her for two months. In this time, Edward was a wonderful strong pillar for her to lean on to. He supported her and gave her the strength to let go of her grief over their daughter. It was during this time that Edward and Georgiana grew as close as friends possibly could.
It was a great joy for them, as well as for their whole family, when in 1959, Georgiana gave birth to another child: Eleanor Jane Bernadette, a healthy girl and the whole family’s sweetheart. With her birth, the four-headed family’s happiness was whole again.
It was June 5th, 1972, when Georgiana’s life changed forever. It had been her father’s birthday, and the whole family was supposed to meet in Mont Saint Michelle to celebrate. Georgiana had been delayed, and when she finally arrived in the late evening, she had been too late already. Late not for the birthday party, her family would have waited on her. But she had been too late to prevent her brother’s magic getting out of hand.
It seemed the Granvilles – Jane, Charles, Philippe, Margaret and her husband Matthew – had all been in the same room. Something must have upset Philippe. He could not control his magic in his wave of emotions, and burst up the whole room into pieces – together with its inhabitants. They were all dead when Georgiana arrived – with the exception of Philippe, who had been rocking back and forth in a corner, not grasping what he had done.
Georgiana never had blamed her brother for the death of her parents, her sister and her brother in law. She knew Philippe could not control his magic well, and that he was a ticking bomb when in emotional stress. But Georgiana was in sheer shock of the intensity of his outburst, and that in this one single uncontrolled moment, her whole parental family – save for Philippe – had been extinguished. They were all gone, the Granvilles were no more. Philippe had no wife, no children, and he never would after this incident – he had to be brought to hospital, so that doctors take optimal care of him. The family name Granvilles would die with Philippe.
It was the worst Georgiana had ever to do in her lifetime. Burying both her parents, her sister and her brother in law. She could not even weep. She felt as if she were in an alternate reality, and she did not like this reality at all. Again, Edward was there to help her through those most difficult and painful times, but this time, unlike when their daughter Mavie had died, she did not accept his help. First, she thought she needed to do and work this out by herself. Second, she still was in too much of a shock to let anyone close to her, even weeks after this horrible June day. And third, somewhere deep down, Georgiana felt how she longed for Dark Magic now. This kind of magic was so mysterious to her, and at this time she hoped that there was some, any kind of spell or potion to bring back her loved ones. And the side who wished for this stood against everything Georgiana had ever believed in. She simply could not give in to this wish… could she?
Her sister Margaret and her husband Matthew had a thirteen year old daughter, Elizabeth Jane, who was orphaned that June 5th. Georgiana took great care of her sister’s only child from then on. She did not raise Elizabeth, but she supported the girl wherever she could, and sought closeness to her. After all, Georgiana was the only link to Elizabeth’s mother’s family, and Georgiana felt she needed to tell the girl so much about the Granvilles, and about Margaret.
In present time, Georgiana still had not gotten over the death of so many people she loved. But instead, she had learned to live with it. She lived on, concentrating on her children. She did, however, not seek comfort with her husband. They grew apart in these two years in between. She closed up, and he could not reach her anymore, and could not take her sadness away from her.
Character Traits
Personality:
Georgiana is a very passionate person. Once she loves or hates, she loves or hates with passion, with a fire that won’t easily be put out again. That is the way she loves her children, and her niece, Elizabeth. She would do anything for them, anything at all to help them and to guarantee their happiness. She has different passionate feelings for her husband Edward. She does not love him. Recently – in the past two years – she had retreated from him, further and further away. She herself knows not why she does not want him so close anymore. She just feels that she needs the distance, although she likes him, loves him as a friend just the same way as before.
To her brother Philippe, Georgiana has a very reserved relationship. She does not often visit him in hospital. Although she does not blame him for their family’s death, she cannot forget and forgive his role in their death, either. She knew it was not his fault, and yet – her grief over the dead ones clouded her love for her only living sibling.
Georgiana used to have many friends and acquaintances, but since the Granville’s death, she retreated and did not or barely hold contact. She used to be a very social, publicly active member of the wizarding society, both in France and Britain. But she ended and could not keep up her social tasks and projects. She retreated, only to be with her children and with Elizabeth, not letting anyone else reach her.
Georgiana currently feels very lonely and deserted – but does not realize that she is the only one who has the power to change this state.
Georgiana is a very bright, intelligent witch, talented especially at mathematical, logic subjects and tasks. She does not easily love or hate, but once she has given love or hatred, she will continue to love or hate that person, come what may. She is stubborn and headstrong. At the same time, she is kind and elegant, manipulating and manoeuvring other people – especially her husband – with sweet, alluring words and gestures. She never will let go of her principles, on top of which stand her children. With her elegance and composure, Georgiana is the perfect representation of the Twickenham family.
