Hello!
Welcome to the Obliviate RPG Forum!
My name is Julia, or for short: Jules; and I am the person behind our well known Albus Dumbledore, not only Headmaster of Hogwarts, but also Administrator.
I decided to make this thread, to help all people who are new to know how to get started on this forum.
So, first things first: You're going to need to read the Rules. No way around that.
Yes, I know, it can be boring to have to read those - they're almost the same on each forum, they're so formal, and - they are bland regulations! But, they're the guidelines and the manual, without them this forum could never work. It is really really important for you to read them, so that you know what is expected of you, and to get a little insight on how this forum works and what possibilities you have.
So, now that you've read the rules, you might want to know what exactly this forum is about. Of course, this is a Harry Potter forum, as much is pretty clear. But when is it set? Where? Whom of the canon characters can you play?
Well, when and where it is set you can easily figure by reading the site's plot - a short summary of how the situation is in the magical world of 1974.
There is also the 1970s thread
The Canons are listed on the Canon List, although I only put the most important canons there - people who were only mentioned once or twice in the books, like Dunbar Oglethorpe (seriously, do you know who that is?) were left out.
Well, now that you've read the rules, know what setting your character will be in, and have decided who your character shall be - canon or original - the next step is to register. Please, I already mentioned this in the rules, don't use a username like "Honeybunny" or "Cutekitten". It would be so much easier for me, and for you as well, if you just put your character's first name ("molly"), or his/her first and last name ("mollyweasley") as username.
So... Now you've made your, and here I want to quote Mary Poppins, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious account - no word better to describe it with - thought of a character, his or her history and given him or her a name... what comes next? Exactly. You introduce yourself to everyone else on this forum - no further explanation required, I hope - and begin working on your character's application, which you will find in the Sorting Hat board. You will find two forms there, one for Canon characters, and another one for Original characters. Please fill out the right one, and post it in a new thread. All further instructions you can find there.
Followed up till now? Wonderful. So what to do next? Well, now begins the nerve-wracking perioud of waiting - waiting for the admin (me) to accept your character. Which I will do as quickly as I can, mind you. And yet it can take me up to a few days. But, this time waiting does not have to be boring! Although you still have to wait to post with your character in the RPG section of this forum, you can visit all other sections: Go to the Chat Space and chat with other members, visit the Cbox on the left side bar, get to know people, play some games on the Games board... and time will fly by like nothing, and your character will be sorted!
Sorted, yes? Well, now begins the big work for you, much to do! Now you may apply for jobs, if your character is an adult, or you may apply for special magical abilities or objects - but mind the rules you find there, please. Always mind the rules. Then, you can post your character's biography in the board Character Biographies, you can start a Character Journal and a Character Photo Album - and, most importantly, you can begin to plot for your character! You can also claim a celebrity as play-back (pb) in the Face Claim thread. See, loads and loads of work for you.
And then follows what you've been waiting for: Posting. Yes, finally! But please mind the minimum posting length of about 200 words. I know you can write as much, and even more. It's not difficult, just be creative! There's so much you can write about that in the end you'll have 500 instead of 200 words!
And now that you're posting, there's another thing to consider: Activity. Posting means that you have a thread with at least one other person. So, be polite and show your respectful side by posting in that thread. Don't keep this other person waiting for too long. The key to be an active member - and I would wish for all of you to become active members - is to log in often and to interact with people. Keep your threads active and alive. Well, of course, I know: Life happens. So if you do know that you're going to be absent for a certain period of time, please tell us so in the Absences board. If you don't and become inactive, I must assume that you have left the forum and will delete your account.
Well! This is what you need to know to get started and know your way around in the Obliviate Forum. If you have any questions, any at all, just come and ask! I don't bite.
Cheers, and have fun!
