General Appearance: Sirius stands at five feet seven inches tall, a little taller than most his age, and weighs around one hundred ten pounds. His dark hair is shaggy and his brown eyes are always full of mischief and laughter. His thin frame is covered by his school robes, or jeans and a tie dye tee shirt – or anything else that will displease his parents, really. He nearly always wears a black hemp necklace with three blood red beads on it as a sort of joke. It’s a cross between his last name and his loyalty to Gryffindor, a visual slap in the face to his parents.

Personal History: Sirius Orion Black was born on June 1, 1960, to Walburga and Orion Black. He was named after the Dog Star. About one year after his birth, his brother Regulus was born. The two boys grew up as polar opposites, at number twelve, Grimmauld Place, London. At first, Sirius was like his parents, only caring about wizards. He wasn’t as pureblood-driven as they, but he didn’t like Muggles, either.
When he was nine, Sirius made friends with a local boy named Kevin Miller. At first, he was unaware that Kevin was a Muggle because the boy could perform simple magic tricks with cards and ropes. The two boys began to hang out every day, though Sirius’s parents were unaware of their son’s new friendship. It wasn’t long before Sirius realized that he’d made a mistake, and that Kevin was not, after all, a wizard, but they were already friends and he began to see that not all Muggles were bad, like his parents said.
By the age of ten, Sirius and Kevin led a group of mischievous local boys who spent their weekends playing small practical jokes. They never hurt anyone of damaged anything permanently, and being young, many people thought it was funny or even cute. Not, however, Sirius’s parents. The boys once made the mistake of playing a joke on Regulus, while he was swinging alone in a nearby park. The boys simply waited until he got up to get a drink from the fountain, then quickly painted the swing black. Regulus returned, and when he got up to go home at the end of the day, his new pants were covered in black paint.
He knew it was his brother, and when he tattled, the whole truth came out – Sirius’s friendship with Kevin included. Within days, Kevin had disappeared. A week later, the newspapers announced his body had been found. Even though he had no proof, Sirius knew the joke and death were connected, and blamed his parents and his brother, and couldn’t wait to get out of the house.
Hogwarts was Sirius’s favorite place to be after that, even though he was often in detention, because he quickly made friends with James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. He decorated his room at home to reflect his love of Gryffindor and Muggles, and pretty much anything that he knew his parents wouldn’t like.
Things were okay after that. Sirius spent large amounts of time at Potter’s house during the summer and breaks, staying as far from his parents and brother as possible. And, since his brother was in Slytherin and a year below, he could stay away from him easily at school, too. He got through it.
Character Traits
Personality: Like a girl named Patience who has none, Sirius is never anything like his name. He’s a big practical joker and enjoys getting in trouble – although he doesn’t enjoy the detention much. He and James are very popular and smart, and even teachers respect their brains, if not their behavior. He is, however, arrogant and a bully. At times, Sirius can also be very irresponsible - some of his plans are not well-thought out, or he just doesn’t care much about the result, unless it happens. He doesn’t usually feel remorse for his tricks, either.
That being said, he is truly a Gryffindor – brave and loyal to the core, Sirius is a great kid to have on your side. He is clever and resourceful, and he always sticks up for his friends.
Like most teenage boys, Sirius loves eating. It doesn’t matter what it is, he’ll eat it. Once, as a dare, he ate dog food. It wasn’t that bad, however cat food, he found absolutely disgusting. But that whole ‘wait an hour after eating before swimming’ thing has never been a problem for him, because Sirius hates swimming. He likes to cool off in the water, but only if it’s no higher than his waist and his head never gets wet. This is because Kevin’s body was found in a nearby lake after the young boy drowned.
Strengths: clever, good-looking, smart, brave
Weaknesses: swimming, arrogant, bully, irresponsible
Other Information
Pets: snowy owl, Tundra
Wand: 11” ash, phoenix feather
Role-play Example: Sirius perched on the edge of the cliff, high above the lake, and looked down at the shimmering waters. He didn't like to swim, and he hadn't for years. For one, he'd never been very good at it. But then his best friend - well, at the time, his best friend now was James Potter - Kevin had drowned. The only water Sirius had touched after that was bath water and drinking water. Now, though, the young wizard wished that he could swim, because then he’d be able to go cliff diving. It wasn’t really a responsible thing to do, from this high up, but then, when had Sirius ever been a responsible person? He was smart, sure, but not usually with his own safety. Or the safety of others.
Or maybe he just didn’t care. Sometimes, he didn’t care if he lived or died. He wasn’t suicidal, not at all. But if he got hurt, or even killed, well, who cared? If he was having fun, then he sure didn’t. Of course, that was only sometimes. Most of the time he was smart enough to put safety far enough up on his list of important things that he got through it okay. Absentmindedly, he fingered the black and red necklace he nearly always wore.
A loud splash and some laughter made the fourteen-year-old push his sweaty mop of hair out of his eyes and look around. Some Muggles were nearby, jumping into the water like he wanted to, although from a much lower ledge. They didn’t have magic to help them if they were to jump from as high as he was and things turned sour.
The sun beat down on the back of Sirius’s neck and he sighed, getting up from his crouch and going to retrieve his shiny red bicycle. He had to head back. As much as he disliked his parents, he disliked missing dinner more, so he didn’t want to be late.
