Please, read these rules before registering.
- First of all, have fun. Enjoy posting, interacting with other people and characters, and creating own plots. This is what the forum is about after all!
General Rules
- Registering: Please, sign up with the first name (eleanor), or the first and last name (alexandrawilkes) of your character. This will make it so much easier for us to know who you are. Do not use usernames like hunnybunny or anything similar.
- Activity: Even before joining – be aware of your time limits. When you register, we expect you to be active on this forum, with all the characters you create. Now, of course, everyone has a different definition of activity. What we mean is: Keep up with your threads, stay active and keep posting. Don’t just disappear, that would be rude toward the persons you rp (roleplay) with. Imagine staying away for weeks - it's difficult to find back into your character plots. The forum won't wait on you. People you've had threads and plot ideas with might have changed their ideas in the meantime. So - stay active. To us, absent is not to be logged on for over a month. Your account will be deleted then, as we must think you will not return to the forum. Of course, we know – life happens. So, if you know you are going to be absent for some time, please be so kind and inform all of us in the Absences board in the Members' area.
- Graphics: You can use any pictures up to the size of 100x100 for your avatar. For your signature pictures and any other graphics you use in your posts, I set the maximum size of 550x500. Any picture larger than 550x500 will be removed. If pictures are too large for the page and would stretch it, please try and resize them, or use just the link instead.
- There will be no drug or alcohol abuse, no rape, suicide, child abuse, teen pregnancy or teacher-students relationships. This is a Harry Potter RPG – such content would not be suitable for the audience such a forum is aimed at.
- Face Claim: There is a thread in the Character Photo Album board concerning Face Claims.
Creating a Character
- No perfect Characters: Every person and character has weaknesses and faults. There are no Barbie dolls, models or celebrities. Characters do have bad moods, they are not always in a good mood. We don't want Mary-Sues. Again, be creative.
- No mythological Characters: Yes, in the world of Harry Potter there are werewolves, giants, metamorphmagi etc.. But they are rare. So, only make such characters with the permission of the admin, unless they are canons.
- Multi-Characters: In this forum, there is no character limit. But, we ask you to reflect on how much time you want and are able to spend actively on this forum, and if you have the time to stay active with all of your characters. We don't want you to neglect some of your characters.
- Deleting a character: Before you delete one of your characters, be sure you really want to do this. It is not easy to build your character up again, once it was deleted. We wish for you to inform us of the deletion, however, so we can take your character’s name off of various lists, and transfer your character’s threads into the Archives.
Behaviour In Character
- There will be no godmodding or powerplaying of any kind – with the only - and we mean only - exception of the person to be godmodded to consent with this one time occurance of godmodding.
- Post length: We expect you to write a minimum of two paragraphs (~200 words) when you’re in character. We want descriptions: Your character’s feelings, memories, surroundings, explanations why he/she is acting the way he/she is, etc.. It’s no big deal if it is less once, but try to write more, we know you can. Be creative, we want depth!
- Format: Please, when in character, write in third person and in past tense. Example: Fanny wasn’t singing very loudly, but loudly enough for the cat to hear her, and for anyone who would enter the otherwhise empty Common room. Which she didn’t suspect, though. Do not use chat language (lol; brb; ttyl;), and again, don’t use offensive language. Do not godmod or powerplay - your post will be deleted otherwise.
- Spell Check: Please use the Spell Check button at the bottom of every posting area. We are aware that many people do not speak English as their mother language (neither do I, mind you), but try to write correctly, and keep the grammar in mind.
Behaviour Out of Character
- OOC language: The OOC language rules do not only apply to the language used in the Cbox, but also in all other places you write as yourself, and not in character. There will be no foul or profane language and no name calling. Please pay the other users on this forum respect and treat them politely. Of course there will be disagreements from time to time, but we expect you to behave grown-up. Don’t carry out fights on this forum, this is not the right place. Also, there will be no spamming. Please use correct English and speak in sentences, we are a literate site, after all. We will not tolerate language like ur so kewl etc..
School Rules
- Classes: The years 1-3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7 will be grouped together in one class. Each week, beginning in September, there will be one subject taught by one teacher. It is not compulsory to attend those classes, but we would be happy to see you join in. After all, Hogwarts is a school and is supposed to teach. After each class there will be a homework for each character that attended.
- Professors: To all professors, please be active, especially when holding a lesson. Keep in mind that teachers are biased, that they might prefer some students to others. Yet, keep the teachers acting professionally, or rather appropriately – teachers are authority figures, they are supposed to teach, to lead the students on their way of studying, and behave as role models.
- Exams: At the end of the school year, there will be exams for each student character, in each subject. If they fail, the character has to repeat the school year.
- Duelling: Duels are allowed, they take place as do fights, confrontations, quarrels etc. We don’t mind. But, keep in mind that any persons of authority (teachers, staff, head boy and girl or prefects) might interrupt – after all, duels are most likely to take place in public areas. However, we do respect your plot ideas, so if you disagree with any authority interrupting, please inform us in advance, e.g. by saying so in the first post of the thread in question.
- Common rooms: A student can only access his/her own Common Room and Dormitories.
- Romance: Please, no romantic relationships before a character isn't at least in his/her third year at Hogwarts. Remember, kids think the other sex is yucky and icky. They don’t change their mind until puberty hits in. And, keep all romantic relationships at a PG 13 level.
